Hummingbird House has celebrated five years since it opened its doors to Queensland families. A huge milestone for an organisation that began as one couple’s dream, and has since grown to support hundreds of families across the state.
I mainly volunteer to give back to others. It also keeps me busy and learning new things. I certainly think I will be volunteering here for more years to come, or until I eventually become a member of Hyland House myself!

At 57 years of age, Jackie suffered a stroke during open heart surgery and went from living an independent life at home with her family to living in aged care home. Jackie has since moved into WesleyCare Wynnum, Specialist Disability Accommodation.
The staff are wonderful here. They’ve been so supportive. When you are having issues with pain or you are sad, they’re there for you and they’re lovely. They seem to work well as a team and I can’t speak highly enough of them.

On Wednesday we held our first ever 24-hour Christmas Appeal Giving Day. Over $180,000 was raised for our Emergency Relief services throughout South East Queensland for those doing it tough during the holiday season.
Wesley Mission QLD (WMQ) recently opened their newest Specialist Disability Accommodation, WesleyCare Maroochydore, on the Sunshine Coast. The community is already at full occupancy, with nine people calling WesleyCare home.
