Residents of Wesley Care Tewantin, friends, family and staff have celebrated the service’s fourth birthday with a ‘Back to school’ themed party.
The event was a highlight for the six residents who call Wesley Care Tewantin home.
The purpose-built supported home was opened in 2013 and provides round the clock, flexible care for six young adults living with disability, who would otherwise be reliant on their families or live in aged care communities.
Wesley Care Tewantin Coordinator Kirin Hagicostas said while the birthday of Wesley Care Tewantin may seem relatively insignificant for most, it’s an incredible milestone for residents and staff.
"Group events, like this party, are a big deal for the residents, their families and friends and our staff. Guests dressed up in uniforms and brought along photos of themselves when they were at school. Staff also organized games and quizzes, which saw everyone reminisce about their favourite class and teachers.” Kirin said.
"We were lucky enough to have some special guests attend from Wesley’s other supported accommodation communities including Asher House (Wynnum) and Youngcare Sinnamon Park."
"Reflecting on the past four years, the journey for all of us has been one of acceptance, growth and education. We aim to provide our residents with as many wonderful experiences as we can, and they all really do embrace every celebration we hold."
"We look forward to the next four years and I’m confident we can grow further in that time and provide more fantastic memories for our residents.”
Wesley Mission Queensland operates five supported accommodation communities across South East Queensland that offer supported and flexible 24-hour care to young adults living with a disability.
