Holding the light together

Message from Wesley Mission Queensland CEO Jude Emmer and members of the Executive Leadership Team

In this season leading to the end of the year, many people celebrate the light of hope in a variety of ways.

Yesterday at Bondi Beach in Sydney, the light was put out for many in the Jewish community in a senseless act of violence. As the news came through, and as it continues today, feelings of loss and sadness and hopelessness, and other emotions have been close. We are connected to many people and communities that we serve. It is this connection that encourages us to hope for a compassionate, just and inclusive society for all; and to grieve when this is taken away.

Together, we hold the light for the Jewish community, for our country, and for each other as we continue to hope.

Message from Dr Daniel Pampuch
(Chairperson, Wesley Mission Queensland Board)

My heart is with the Jewish community following the horrific attack on Bondi Beach during the celebration of Hanukkah, where believers gathered to celebrate in joy and faith. The Jewish Community are part of our Australian community, they are our neighbours and our friends.

This moment of light and hope was shattered by violence and hatred. Hanukkah proclaims the endurance of light against darkness. We must all stand against such violence, intolerance, hatred and fear and ensure light does indeed triumph over such darkness.

My heart breaks for those who are directly impacted, the Jewish community, and our nation as a whole.
