Gift property
Property gifts – whether physical items, rights, or interests – can help us continue our work supporting the causes you care about. From artwork to real state, equipment or shares, your gift can make a real difference.

What counts as property
Property can take many forms, including:
- Physical items like shares (learn how to gift stocks or shares), artwork, real estate, equipment, paper, toys, non-perishable goods, books, and more.
- Rights or interests capable of ownership
This flexibility allows you to contribute in ways that fit your circumstances and passions.
How to gift property
We can often benefit from gifts of property, but it’s important to contact us first to confirm we can accept the gift and discuss any special conditions.
We also recommend speaking with your accountant and/or the Australian Tax Office (ATO) to ensure your donation complies with current regulations.
Record-keeping and compliance
To make the process smooth and compliant, it’s important to record details of your property donation, including:
- The date the gift was made
- The name of the DGR to which the gift was donated
- The amount or value of the gift
- Any elections to spread the deduction
- A description of the property being donated
The value your property
If the property was purchased within the last 12 months, the valuation of the gift is the lesser of:
- The market value of the property on the day the gift is made
- The amount paid (proof of purchase is required)
If the property was NOT purchased within the last 12 months, the amount of the gift deduction is the value determined by the ATO. Property gifted under this category is only tax-deductible if valued greater than $5,000.
