Aged care FAQs
Residential aged care costs include accommodation charges and fees for daily living and care services. The Government subsidy is means-tested (based on your income and assets). Services Australia determines eligibility and may subsidise a portion of these costs. Residents or their families contribute the remainder. Subsidies can cover care and basic daily fees but do not fully cover accommodation costs. Some additional services may also be subsidised through other government funding, such as Home Care Packages, but these are separate from residential aged care. For our room costs, please refer to the calculator located in this page.
To choose the right residential aged care community, determine the level of care you require (some offer specialised care for dementia and other conditions), consider the location (close to family and friends), and examine facilities such as room quality, dining options, and social activities. Check staff qualifications, ensure the facility is accredited with My Aged Care, and understand the costs and available funding. Review feedback from current residents and their families. To learn more about Wesley Mission Queensland's values and hear from our residents, explore their stories on our blog.
It starts by applying for a government subsidy through My Aged Care, which includes an eligibility assessment. The assessment will evaluate your eligibility for government-subsidised care based on your health needs, and the level of care needed. Once approved, you can search for suitable facilities using the My Aged Care website. After selecting a residential aged care community, you’ll submit an application, which may involve a wait depending on availability. Once a spot is offered, you'll complete the necessary paperwork and financial arrangements, with the government providing a subsidy for care and accommodation based on a means test.
Tours can be arranged once you’ve completed an admission application. This allows us to recommend the most suitable community based on your specific needs and the level of care allocated through your Government funding. For more information, please call our friendly team on 1800 448 448.
How to get started
Support every step of the way
Get assessed
Register with My Aged Care to organise an aged care assessment (online or call 1800 200 422). This step determines your eligibility for residential aged care and any government subsidies.
Explore options
Research aged care homes that meet your care level, needs and preferences. Consider factors like location, facilities, services, social activities and cost.
Apply
Submit an application to your preferred aged care home. If you're eligible for a government subsidy, work with the provider to finalise funding arrangements and move-in details.
At WMQ, we require the Centrelink Fee outcome letter before we can offer you permanent care.
