Specialist Youth Housing Service

The Specialist Youth Housing Service (SYHS) can provide support for young people and families who are at risk of becoming homeless.

SYHS's mobile support program aims to find, secure and sustain safe tenancy by guiding clients through the entire process from attending inspections to moving in and understanding tenancy responsibilities.

SYHS also includes access to seven Crisis Accommodation Program (CAP) houses in the Beenleigh and Southport regions.

What's included in transitional accommodation support?

Supported accommodation services include:

  • Access to seven properties
  • Low-level support
  • Case management and referrals
  • Accommodation for up to 12 months
  • Assistance with building a rental history

The properties are fully furnished and rent is calculated at 28% of the tenant's income and $20 per adult per fortnight for electricity.

  • Advocating with real estate agents
  • Budgeting and life skill development
  • Providing support to access shared and supported accommodation within the community
  • Workshops that demonstrate sustainable tenancies
  • Training to enhance knowledge of obtaining and maintaining a tenancy in the private rental market
