Brisbane Relief Hub

The Brisbane Relief Hub can support you if you are in financial stress and lacking necessities such as food. When available they may be able to assist with toiletries, hygiene packs, baby bundles and pet supplies.

 Overview

The Brisbane Relief Hub provides a range of services to help you at times of need. These include:

  • A drop-in service for help with food and medical script subsidies
  • Community Meal, in Fortitude Valley, which provides free two-course meals on Sunday lunches, Monday nights and Wednesday nights. Free BBQ burgers are provided every Tuesday from 10:15am to 11:15am
  • Casework support (clients must undergo an intensive interview by appointment)
  • Individual financial resilience counselling and support (clients must participate in sessions by appointment).

The Brisbane Relief Hub also offers a range of activities and groups, including social, educational and therapeutic groups including BBQs, expressive arts, budgeting and mental health. 

Drop-in service

This service can offer:

  • A daily snack pack
  • Up to 10 free food hampers per financial year
  • $50 medical script subsidy per financial year.

No appointment is necessary, but to be eligible for the service you must provide proof of low income (health care card or pension card; or a bank statement or payslip; or a refugee card or other proof of low income) and proof of identity, such as a photo ID or two forms of non-photo ID.

Community Meal in Brisbane

Community Meal is a free lunch and dinner service offered in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley for people doing it tough.

Since 2005, Community Meal has been serving people facing times of hardship. Food is supplied by OzHarvest and  Foodbank, and is supplemented by resources from Wesley Mission Queensland.

The Community Meal service provides three key programs:

  • Sunday lunch: two-course lunch from 1pm to 1:45pm (takeaway)
  • Monday evening: two-course dinner from 6:30pm to 7:15pm (takeaway)
  • Wednesday evening*: two-course dinner from 6:30pm to 7:30pm (dine-in or takeaway)

*On Wednesday nights, Community Meal provides a medical clinic with Sunny Street each week and technology support through 4Voices.

Community Meal is an initiative of the Albert Street Uniting Church

Emergency Relief also provides free BBQ burgers every Tuesday from 10:15am to 11:15am.
