Social Support

Staying active in your community is such an important part of your health and wellbeing. We offer a variety of supports to help you maintain your friendships and hobbies. These can include:
  • Social visits in your home
  • Support to attend and participate in recreational activities and programs (such as going bowling, shopping, or attending church groups)
  • Support to visit friends and family.

Transport

We provide or arrange transport to help you get to appointments, recreational activities and other commitments.

  • Whether you need a care worker to accompany you on outings, or you simply need a reliable and qualified transport service to drop you off and pick you up, we can assist.
  • If you live in Brisbane North, you also may be eligible for our Community Assisted Transport Service, a door-to-door service for those who are unable to use alternative modes of transport for health or mobility reasons.

Social activities, outings and day programs

We offer a rich and diverse schedule of activities for people to take part in at our centres in Petrie, Arana Hills, Morningside and Sinnamon Park. Depending on which centre you choose to attend, activities are available for a full day, half day, or even on an hourly basis if you have a specific activity you wish to participate in.

Activities include:

  • Health and fitness programs, such as our popular exercise physiology classes at Balmoral Uniting Community Centre
  • Social groups and outings
  • Technology training, including learning to use your mobile device or iPad
  • Arts and crafts
  • Music and dance
  • Cultural celebrations.

If you wish to join in on a regular social activity or have a special interest in gardening, woodwork, music, arts, or handicrafts, our social groups are a great solution. Our social groups are a way for like-minded people to get together regularly and engage in activities of interest. More importantly, they are a way to meet new people and build meaningful social connections.

Social groups are based at Sinnamon Park, Morningside, Petrie, Arana Hills. Depending on your needs and the length of your visit, meals may be included.

Our group social outings are a great way to get out and explore, as well as meet people and build connections with others. We have a regular schedule of fun and exciting outings ranging from shopping and movies, to concerts and our very popular scenic bus tours, and provide a mix of smaller and larger group sizes to cater for different preferences. These outings leave from our centres in Petrie, Arana Hills, Morningside and Sinnamon Park. If you live in the north of Brisbane and are independently mobile, you may also be eligible to join our Community Assisted Transport Service for its monthly outings complete with a door-to-door pick-up and drop-off service.
