Janelle and Sue’s Aussie Camino Walk
Janelle and Sue's completed the "Aussie Camino Walk" from Portland, Victoria, to Penola, South Australia, to raise funds for The ORCA Project, one of WMQ's NDIS services, providing work skills training for young adults with a disability.
This was a true test of endurance, but their goal to raise $10,000 to purchase a Braille translator and embosser machine to help the young people who attend ORCA. They were on their mind every step of the way. This equipment is vital for making learning materials more accessible to blind participants in The ORCA Project, enabling them to engage more fully in their education and personal development.
“By donating $62.50 for every kilometre walked, we set a clear, achievable target that will have a profound impact on the effectiveness of The ORCA Project's training programs”, Janelle said.
Janelle and Sue created their own fundraising page, using the WMQ branded template, added photos prior to and while they walked, recorded video and completed a daily blog. This provided their friends and family comfort, knowing they were safe and well and provided a platform for sharing to their networks, increasing the traffic to their page.
Even other Camino participants, whom they did not know prior, were inspired by the ORCA story and chose to donate. Janelle and Sue’s Aussie Camino Walk online fundraiser raised $10,880 and the Braille Translator and Embosser machine were purchased.
The ORCA Project

We believe that all young people, including those living with disabilities, have unique strengths, skills, challenges, and interests. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach at The ORCA Project.
Designed in consultation with real families in Brisbane, this approved NDIS service provides skills for success in the workforce, and gives young adults an opportunity to learn about themselves, their interests and the type of work that's meaningful to them.
