EG2020: a plan for change in Ellen Grove

Ellen Grove 2020
In 2015, Wesley Mission Queensland started working with the Ellen Grove community in Brisbane’s south west to understand the status of a number of key social, housing and infrastructure issues impacting local residents.

In a survey commissioned by WMQ, 57% of residents reported feeling they were part of a ‘forgotten suburb’, with public transport, high unemployment rates and substance misuse as main concerns for residents.

The resulting Ellen Grove Action Plan developed in consultation with residents, other community service organisations, local and state governments, universities and businesses, is a five year plan that aims to support change and community connections in the area. The plan was implemented in 2016 by a collaborative group, which included a range of stakeholders interested in the development of Ellen Grove.

Membership includes representatives from:

  • more residents engaged in community life

  • better, more integrated support services
  • better infrastructure, creating safe places to gather.
