How much will I pay?
This is an important question for most people, and after making sure you or your loved one will be properly cared for, this is usually the one that can cause the most stress for families.
There are two types of placements for residential aged care – government supported placements, and full fee placements. Your personal financial position, including your assets and income, will determine which placement are you eligible for. At Wesley Mission Queensland, we accept both government supported placements, and full fee placements.
Paying for aged care is broken down into four parts: your accommodation, your daily living expenses, your care, and additional services. To get a better understanding of this, view our ‘understanding the cost of residential aged care’ page. And of course, if you have any questions, we’re always here to help.
The My Aged Care website also has a Residential Care Fee Estimator that you may find helpful.
What furniture can I bring? Can I bring personal items with me?
We want you to feel at home, so we encourage you to personalise your room. We provide a bed, bedside chair, and often a chest of drawers, but if you would like to bring any other furniture, please let us know. You are also welcome to bring things like photographs, your own pillow and bedspread, artwork, and any other small, personal favourite items that you wish.
Do I have to eat in the dining room, or can I take my meals in my room?
Eating meals with other people in a dining room might feel like a strange concept, especially if you’re used to dining in the privacy of your own home, but it provides a great opportunity to socialise with others. However you are most certainly welcome to take your meals in your room, and we will bring these to you. You will always have the option to either dine in the dining room, or take your meals privately.
What are the visiting hours? When can my family visit?
This is your home, so we want you to treat it as such. Family and friends can visit at any time. At night, the main entrances to our communities are locked for security purposes, but visitors are still welcome – they just need to ring the doorbell or use the access code so that they can be let in.
Am I allowed to go out when I like?
It’s important for all of us to keep active and socially engaged, so you are welcome to go out whenever you can. Our communities are located close to many amenities including shopping centres, cinemas, and restaurants that would be the perfect places to visit with friends and family. However we ask that you let us know when you’re going out, so that we know you are safe.
How safe and secure is my room?
Personal privacy and safety is very important for all residents, and your room is your personal space. We want you to feel comfortable coming and going as you like, and it is your choice when and whom you allow into your space, just like it is if you were in your own home. Staff will always ask your permission first to enter your room, unless there is an emergency where your safety takes first preference.
What kind of care will I receive? Will I get assistance with showering etc?
When you move in, we will chat with you, your family and your doctor about the kind of care you need, and together we will work out a care plan that suits you. Our personal carers, nurses, and other staff will then get to know you personally and be on hand to help with whatever you require.
Do you have 24/7 nursing staff?
We have registered nurses in all of our communities, which means that we are able to provide 24/7 nursing care. Our care team is made up of personal carers, clinical nurse specialists, and dedicated Wesley Mission Queensland allied health staff, so we can easily and accurately tailor support to your individual needs.
Do you have regular bus trips for residents?
Yes we do! And they are very popular. Each community has a bus trip roster, and our drivers Marc (for our communities in Brisbane West) and Frank (for our communities in Brisbane North) are some of the best in the business. They love what they do and they love to plan fun and exciting trips that can include anything from a leisurely scenic drive, to a BBQ in the park, a day out at the beach, a trip to a museum and even some mystery trips.
Can I have a phone in my room?
All rooms include phone connection, so you are welcome to set up a landline in your room if you wish. The cost of this phone will need to be covered by you and/or your family.
