Our Story

We empower artists living with mental health issues, physical or intellectual disabilities or those experiencing homelessness and social isolation by giving a pathway to enrichment, personal growth and professional development through creative practice.

Established in 2008, Art from the Margins began as a program to support homeless artists through an art award and exhibition held at the Albert Street Uniting Church in Brisbane. With the support of Wesley Mission Queensland, AFTM has expanded its services and art prize to artists living with adversity throughout the Brisbane region and beyond.

Our vision is to transform the lives of those experiencing adversity and disability through the joy of art, by being a leading provider of visual arts programs and opportunities for disadvantaged artists in Queensland.
