Director of Residential Aged Care
A desire to help people from a young age, particularly the elderly, has seen Annie dedicate her life to nursing and caring for others. After starting as a registered nurse at Wesley Mission Queensland’s St John’s nursing home, she soon became the Director of Nursing and it was in this role that she led the merger of St John’s and St Luke’s nursing homes into the new, state-of-the-art, 145-bed Parkview aged care home, which opened in 2009.
A highlight for Annie during her time at Wesley Mission Queensland has been instigating the Eden Alternative™ philosophy of care across all 13 aged care homes. This philosophy is built around person-centred care that aims to empower residents, staff and families. Since becoming the director of residential aged care in 2012, Annie has focussed on supporting her 13 aged care managers to move through the Eden Alternative™ journey of registration and looks to the federal government’s Living Longer Living Better legislation as a challenge and major change for the aged care sector in the near future.
Annie is a registered nurse and holds a BA in Health Science along with postgraduate certificates in management, and counter terrorism and intelligence. She recently completed an executive leadership program entitled ‘Non-profit Leadership Program – Leading in Turbulent Times’ through Harvard Club Australia, and a career-defining 12 month course titled ‘Advanced Leadership Program’ through Women & Leadership Australia.
Annie is Chair of Northside Christian College and a current member of NIMAC (Nurses in Management – Aged Care) and AIM (Australian Institute of Management).
Annie and her husband Patrick have three adult children and five grandchildren, and treasure their fortnightly family gatherings.
