NDIS support categories

Services funded under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) are grouped in specific categories.

Assistance with daily life

Through the NDIS you can receive support with a number of core services to help make your daily life easier. Our services include community nursing; assessments by qualified allied health professionals to ensure you can undertake daily life tasks; and a variety of accommodation options, from respite care to shared living environments and longer term accommodation options.

  • Asher House – long-term supported accommodation at Wynnum for people living with acquired brain injuries
  • Clear Breeze Apartments - supported accommodation at Mitchelton for adults living with mental health concerns
  • Wesley Care Tewantin - accommodation and respite for young people who have high care needs on the Sunshine Coast
  • Youngcare – apartments at Sinnamon Village, Coomera, Wooloowin for young people with complex care and support needs
  • Hummingbird House – Queensland’s only children’s hospice providing respite and care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families
  • Hadden Place – dementia specific day and overnight respite care in Brisbane’s western suburbs
  • Pine Rivers Respite Service – day respite for people living with a disability
  • Allied health – support coordination (assessments)

 


Transport

Sometimes a helping hand to get out and about in your community can make all the difference in maintaining your independence and wellbeing. Our door-to-door transport services can help you with things like appointments, community engagements, and shopping trips.

Our transport services are provided by:

  • Balmoral Uniting Community Centre – transport to the centre where you can participate in social activities and be part of the community
  • Community Assisted Transport Scheme (CATS) – door-to-door transport services for appointments and other commitments for people living in the Pine Rivers region

 


Consumables (interpreting)

If you have a hearing disability and require assistance with interpreting and translating, we can assist you.


Coordination of supports

Wesley Mission Queensland can also offer you support to understand your plan through our Supports Connection Service. 

We provide a number of services to assist you under the NDIS support coordination category.

Our supports facilitators are qualified to help you to sift through your plan and find the right supports for you. If you have Support Coordination in your NDIS plan, talk to us about how we can help you.


Improved living arrangements

We believe everyone should have access to a living environment of their choosing. Our supported accommodation communities offer people under 65 living with complex care and support needs the chance to live the life they choose with the support they need to reach their own personal goals.

Our NDIS supported living arrangements include:

Increased social and community participation

NDIS provides new opportunities for you to get involved in the community, learn new hobbies, join in activities and make friends. We provide social and community participation opportunities through:

  • Group 61 – a volunteer befriending program to encourage self-confidence and friendships
  • Art from the Margins - a visual arts program providing artists with creative support, mentoring and professional development, art workshops and the opportunity to exhibit their work to the wider community
  • Balmoral Uniting Community Centre – activities include friendship groups, morning teas, social outings, volunteer visits and phone catch ups.
  • MailpaQ – people working at our Rocklea site can also participate in regular social activities including drumming, singing, music and art groups to enable them to make new friends, explore their creative side and learn new things outside of their normal work environment.
  • Creative Arts Program – a music and arts program that gives you the chance to indulge in a long dreamt  of skill, try something different and meet new people
  • Hadden Place  and Hyland House–opportunities for people with dementia to enjoy social interaction and activities 

Finding and keeping a job

The NDIS funds programs to get you ready for work or to help you find work in open employment or  supported employment

  • Through MailpaQ, WMQ can provide employment opportunities in printing and packaging. MailpaQ is an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE)
  • The ORCA Project – a post-school program for young people with a disability (18 – 21 years) that includes training, work experience and ultimately employment. You can also use SLES funding to access The ORCA Project
  • Art from the Margins - a visual arts program providing artists with creative support, mentoring and professional development, art workshops and the opportunity to exhibit their work to the wider community. AFTM is also mentoring artists to help turn their art into a business.

Improved health and wellbeing

We offer a range of therapy, respite and wellness services through our centres, in-home care services and at various other locations for people who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle or improve their health and fitness.

These services include:

  • Hydrotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Podiatry
  • Psychology
  • Counselling
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Speech Pathology
