Staying safe and connected during COVID-19

We're doing all we can to assist our residents feel connected, safe and secure during the COVID-19 pandemic. Watch our video to see how we're taking care of our residents during this time.

- Because we're part of Wesley Mission Queensland very early on we were notified that we needed to keep our people safe. They are in that category that is vulnerable. So it was really within the first week of Coronavirus of lockdown, where things started to be discussed and restrictions were made, that we stepped into action. What we want to do is really create an environment that looks after our people and keeps them safe and secure both, and keeps them physically, mentally, and spiritually safe. If there's anything that they need. Do they need to go to a doctor's appointment? Do they need to get some food or supplies? And just someone to talk to? We've put on things like our fruit and vegetable days, our normal sort of market, there our fruit and vegetable supplier has put a few grocery lines in there as well to help them. Our cafe's started supplying bread and milk to them. And we've had a mobile butcher that comes on-site, they pre-order, or can buy from the butcher on the day and all their supplies then are taken care of. So there's very little that they have to go out for. what we've done to try and create some physical and mental stimulation to our residents, changing our monthly newsletter to a weekly newsletter including lots of fun things. We've got a roving bush poet that lives in the village and he'll recite poetry. He's has an Order of Australia medal, and he's published nine books, so he is very accomplished and he's very fun to listen to. We've got some of our people who play piano and sing, some of our people from choir, they're coming out to those locations a couple of times a week, and actually performing for the residents. Our cafe is very popular in the village of this size. We've had to change the way we run the cafe, So it's takeaway only. The cafe's also supplying meals to the residents. Cooked meals that they can reheat in their oven for dinner.

- All they've had is, the interest of the people that we don't get the virus, in the community. And to date we haven't. it's been brilliantly handled and very responsibly handled.

- [Jo] For us, this is about taking care of family.
