When I first moved here, I didn’t know what my life was going to be like, or what I was going to do.

One morning, I asked some of the staff if there was any way that I might be able to do some jigsaw puzzles, because I’ve always enjoyed those. And just like that, I found jigsaw puzzles laid out on my table, and my chair set up, waiting for me the same day. I was totally amazed.

From this one kind action, I could see that the principles of the Eden Alternative™ Philosophy, about empowering residents, could be fulfilled by giving people something to do, something that gives them pleasure; something that challenges them and helps them. It was a wonderful thing to experience when I was so new to this change in my life.

I feel so privileged to be here. In this community, no matter that we all have different abilities, everyone is included – whether it’s eating a meal together, sharing a conversation, or joining in an activity. These things bring us together as a family; a family of caring residents, and carers who care for us.
