Long-standing Brisbane art exhibition is now open nationally for the first time, to highlight new and emerging artists living with adversity.
Art from the Margins (AFTM’s) Outsider Art Awards have been running annually since 2008, to coincide with Disability Action Week in Queensland, and are now open biennially to all artists across Australia, with over $6,000 worth of prizes on offer.
AFTM, a creative initiative of Wesley Mission Queensland, supports, exhibits and promotes the work of artists living with adversity, mental health issues, physical or intellectual disabilities, or experiencing homelessness and social isolation.
Steven Alderton, Director and CEO of the National Art School in Sydney, will be the judge of this year’s awards.
Entries close on Friday 19th July and cost $10 per artwork entry (maximum of two entries per artist).
Shortlisted finalists will be exhibited at the AFTM Gallery and Studios in Brisbane between Monday 2nd September and Saturday 5th October, with prize winners announced at the official exhibition opening on Friday 6th September 2019.
