Suicide Prevention Safety Planning Training

This Suicide Prevention Safety Planning workshop has been developed by Wesley Mission Queensland in response to a need for workers in the sector to be equipped to go beyond ‘assess and refer’ when engaging with someone who has suicidal thoughts.

The training extends on the skills developed in Wesley LifeForce suicide prevention training (and other ‘Gatekeeper Training’ packages) so that those in a role of helping someone stay safe can facilitate the development of an effective safety planning.

Participants will develop skills to take action through steps that are in line with best practice principles of effective suicide prevention safety planning.

After identifying suicidal thoughts workers will often make a referral to another health professional, which of course is appropriate in many circumstances. Unfortunately though, many clients get referred from place to place without meaningful intervention. With the development of a safety plan, the person at risk is empowered to recognise and implement strategies to keep themselves safe as well as developing an understanding of options they can take to reach out for appropriate support in times of need.

Please only register for this workshop if you are doing the Wesley LifeForce morning session or have previously completed 'gatekeeper training' such as Wesley LifeForce Suicide Prevention Training, SafeTALK or ASIST.
