Wesley Mission Queensland’s art program, Art from the Margins (AFTM), is inviting expressions of interest from Indigenous artists for inclusion in the 2019 NAIDOC exhibition.

The exhibition is scheduled to coincide with NAIDOC Week which runs from 7 – 14 July 2019. NAIDOC Week is an occasion for all Australians to come together to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – the oldest continuing culture on the planet.

This year’s theme for NAIDOC Week is Voice Treaty Truth. Voice Treaty Truth were key elements to the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which is a set of reforms. One of these reforms is to set up a Makarrata Commission to supervise treaty and truth. Treaties are inseparable from truth. Understanding history is needed for true reconciliation – it is the history of all of us, all of Australia and we need to own it. We need to move forward together – let’s work together for a share future.

For our AFTM NAIDOC exhibition, Indigenous artists who are socially isolated or live outside of Brisbane are invited to submit work in the spirit of NAIDOC Week theme. Collective or collaborative works with Non-Indigenous artists will also be considered.
