Our Environment

Our light-filled rooms are full of natural play invitations that inspire children’s creativity and imagination. We have two different outdoor spaces that allow children the space to explore and learn about the natural world.

We work with families to create a space where children know they are valued members of our diverse community. We encourage families to get involved in their child’s class when they have time - through teaching us a special skills, reading a story or sharing their culture with cooking or songs. We know that connection and belonging are vital in the Early Years and our small, dedicated team know each and every child in the centre.

Learning Philosophy

At Jahjumbeen Kindergarten and Child Care Centre educators encourage children to become capable and competent learners.

We recognise each child’s individuality and support them for who they are through a warm and nurturing environment. We strive to build trusting relationships with our children to support each child’s sense of belonging and wellbeing, which in turn, supports our holistic approach to their learning and development.

Our beliefs:

  • Our educators believe each child is a unique individual with their own needs, interests, abilities and backgrounds. Educators work alongside families to provide a stimulating and educational curriculum.
  • We value partnerships and strive to create a welcoming environment for children, families and the wider community. Communication with all families is essential to guide and nurture each child in this vital stage of their development.
  • All children are active learners and we believe they create and develop knowledge, self image, confidence and independence through their daily experiences.
  • We believe play is the basis for children’s learning and development and we support this by providing physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional experiences. Play provides children with the opportunity to express a sense of agency and demonstrate competence and be leaders in their own learning. We believe that mixed age peer interactions help support children’s social and emotional wellbeing.
  • We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians of the land and support multicultural learning within our service. We encourage families, staff, children and the wider community to celebrate the diversity we have at Jahjumbeen through special events held throughout the year. We welcome the input of all families and recognise that every family is unique.
  • We value our team of passionate educators and support them by providing professional development opportunities to keep their practices current and responsive to each child’s learning and development. As educators we provide a flexible and open environment that promotes children’s creativity in rich and meaningful ways.
  • Our centre's policies and procedures are encouraged to support and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders.
